“Southie is My Home Town”

Jennifer J Robert is an award-winning writer, photographer and artist whose work has been recognized by the National City and Regional Magazine Association (CRMA) where she was awarded the prestigious “Best Essay” in 2015 for her Boston Magazine feature “One of Us…” about growing up bi-racial in South Boston, “Southie” during and after force school busing.

Jennifer was born and raised in Southie and shares her unique and unbelievable experience as a bi-racial kid during the most racially volatile period in the city’s history. Her story is one of sheer resilience, humor and perseverance through immense odds and incredible obstacles. Her story also shows us the complexities of love and loyalty and why, despite the pain she experienced, she is incredibly grateful and proud of her home town.

A writer with a clear voice and a sharp style, Jennifer speaks to her readers in an often painfully honest, yet objective way that allows her reader into the depths of her heart and mind. She holds nothing back in her story,

Writing and photographing her iconic neighborhood since the early ‘90’s (just before it's dramatic demographic and architectural changes), Jennifer captures the essence of what she loves about her hometown.

Jennifer also shoots interesting, unusually city scenery and has an eye for beauty where most don’t look.

Jennifer’s photographs has been featured in Boston Magazine, exhibited at the Boston Convention and Exhibit Center and featured on her blog jenniferjroberts.com/WordPress.

Jennifer was the narrator for the “Southie Tour” on Detour.com and joins the ranks of such prestigious entertainment icons as Ken Burns who narrated the Brooklyn tour.

Jennifer is completing her forthcoming memoir “One of Us” for which the Boston Magazine article was based.

Jennifer earned a Bachelor of Science in Journalism from Suffolk University and a Master’s Degree in Business Ethics and Compliance from New England College of Business.
